In 2012, I made a choice that absolutely changed the course of my life. Instead of accepting a job in the profession I already held a degree in, I went back to school. Law school. I chose to pursue a lifelong dream.

It was the first time I followed a path simply because it felt right to me, even though it was scary as hell. The people closest to me did not fully understand the decision and some were skeptical, but I stayed the course.

That choice led me to where I am today, continuing to make decisions that are scary, uncertain, and completely my own. Once I learned that I could move forward despite fear and other people’s doubts, I began making more of those choices.

I left a lifelong religion that no longer fit. I moved to Colorado without a job waiting for me. I walked away from a relationship that was amazing in many ways but, overall, was not right for me.

Along the way, I learned one of the most freeing truths of my life: something does not have to be horribly wrong to not be right.

These choices gave me purpose, passion, and freedom. They did not just change where I lived, worked, or belonged. They cracked my life wide open. My life is bold, honest, exhilarating, sometimes terrifying, and completely my own. I feel more, dream bigger, move with purpose, and trust myself in ways I never imagined possible.

Now I help others question the rules they inherited, listen to what lights them up, and choose what feels right and true, even when it is terrifying and thrilling at the same time. Because when you start living as yourself, everything changes. Everything.
